Sharp lines, collages, project drafts, rapidly drawn sketches, compulsive pencil marks: 85 autographed drawings by some of the world's leading contemporary designers have been auctioned by Sotheby's on May 13.
The drawings were selected out of the 460 donated to FAI (The Italian National Trust) by their authors and displayed at the exhibition "The Hand of the Designer" in April 2010. The proceeds from the auction will go to the maintanance of Villa Necchi Campiglio, a grand example of rationalist architecture in the heart of Milan.
"The Hand of the Designer" exhibition featured original sketches by 150 international designers, such as Bouroullec Brothers, Michael Graves, Hella Jongerius and Karim Rashid.
All drawings are collected in the 361-page, A4 white cover catalogue published by Moleskine, sold together with a blank sketchbook, 120 pages to fill in with your drawings and writings. Revenues from the sale of the catalogue, available from the bookshop at Villa Necchi Campiglio and online, will also go to FAI. Drawings can be viewed on the special online gallery.
