Moleskine Celebrates Cai Guo-Qiang's The Ninth Wave

Cai Guo-Qiang Moleskine notebook
Celebrated contemporary artist Cai Guo-Qiang chose to open his debut solo exhibition in China with the "Explosion Event" Elegy. Over the course of 8 minutes, the riverfront outside the massive industrial art space of Shanghai's Power Station of Art lit up with a fireworks display. Canary yellow smoke hung above the water. Turquoise and bright pink rockets shot up into the sky. Blue, white and green plumes danced in the air.
The artist's iconic gunpowder explosions recall a childhood defined by the Cultural Revolution in order to draw attention to environmental issues. Now he calls on Moleskine fans to express their own imaginations with a Special Edition notebook designed by the artist himself. Inspired by the exhibition's opening event, the white cover features a blind debossing of exploding fireworks, conveying the need for precise timing. The paperband reproduces the artist's preliminary sketch which provided his inspiration for the final piece. Just like the fireworks express a thought, a concept or a memory, the notebook is designed to let you express yourself.
