Painting, design, sculpture, video, installation and photography. The Centre for Contemporary Culture Strozzina in Florence presents the second edition of Emerging Talents, an award and exhibition that calls attention to young Italian artists and gives the public and art critics alike an opportunity to survey the contemporary art scene. The 16 participating artists, selected by 4 highly established Italian critics and curators, deal with a variety of subjects and approaches ranging from the relationship with history to material experimentation, from acoustic and visual perception of reality to the relation with city space, to thoughts on the identity and the role of the artist in today's society.
Moleskine is taking part in this project with a (large) notebook, complete with specially personalized cover and paper band. This is not the first time that its collaboration with Palazzo Strozzi and the Centre for Contemporary Culture Strozzina has yielded special editions.
Luigi Presicce, this year's winner, was selected by an international jury comprised of Achim Borchardt-Hume (Whitechapel Gallery, London), Barbara Gordon (Hirshhorn Museum, Washington D.C.) and Adam Szymczyk (Kunsthalle Basel). The video "La benedizione dei pavoni" [The Peacock's Blessing] documents a performance for the celebration of Sant'Antonio Abate in Novoli (in the province of Lecce), where sacredness and magic come together. All the artists' works will be on exhibit at the Strozzina from February 19 to May 1. For more information: www.strozzina.org and www.palazzostrozzi.org
