After stops in London, New York, Paris, Berlin and Istanbul, Detour is at MoMA Design Store, Omotesando, Tokyo.

Fifty notebooks are displayed in a special intimately illuminated tunnel, 23 of them by Japanese authors like Toyo Ito, architect; Mamoru Oshii, manga cartoon artist and film director; Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue NIshizawa, architects of studio Sanaa, who designed the New Museum in NY.Kenya Hara, creative director of Muji; Naoto Fukasawa, international star of industrial design; Takashi Homma, photographer, with a special taste for suburban life; Erina Matsui, illustrator, painter.
 
Together with the new Japanese authors, 7 new international authors are featured, including dutch designer Tord Boontje and the Campana Brothers (Brazil).

Some works contain extensive stories and illustrated narratives, others are turned into sculptures, pieces of contemporary art and design. Visitors have the unique opportunity to touch the paper and flick through the notebooks by wearing special cotton gloves, witnessing the authors' creative process as it unfolds on the pages.

Over 600 people attended the Detour opening, Thursday, October 15, 2009.

Detour Tokyo will come together myDetour, a travelling collection of illustrated notebooks created by new talents, with installations in five partner bookshops and design stores of Tokyo.
