If you have difficulty imagining buildings made of modules that react to impulses of light and sound, or pavilions with shapes inspired by wet hair, or spaces able to absorb ultraviolet rays, then you do not know the work of the Architectural Association. According to a purely architectural definition, the Architectural Association, or AA, is simply a space. But in truth, definitions to one side, it is one of a kind. When it was first organized, one hundred fifty years ago, the profession of architect was quite different from what it is today. The AA is a school that from its beginnings has developed in parallel with the realities that have shaped the profession. Today it can rightfully be considered unique in its structure, ambitions, activities, and flexibility.

With globalization, urbanization, and the new technologies of communication, all the various disciplines have chosen to turn towards forms that promote exchange, identity, and dialogue, in order to maintain the richness of diversity.

Architecture has an important role to play in this challenge. The main goal of the AA is to continue to nourish and broaden the profession's internal debates, discussions, and exchanges. This is partly in order to maintain its role as a point of reference for the field within London, but also in order to help resist the growing uniformity that it sees in the world (from an architectural point of view, but in other ways as well).

The school offers a program that includes exhibitions, lectures, presentations, and publications, which together guarantee a training that is rich and stimulating.
