Erdem Akan was born in 1973, and followed his studies in Istanbul, Turkey. He graduated from Bosphorus University with a BSc. degree in Mechanical Engineering. A British Council Chevening scholarship and his desire for creativity took him to the University of Salford in Manchester, UK with an Industrial Design Masters degree. He completed his design studies through the Design Culture and Management Program in Istanbul Bilgi University in coop with Domus Academy (Milan). From 1996 to 2001 he has undertaken several design and coordination activities for commercial vehicle projects at Ford Motor Company Design Studios in: Istanbul (Turkey), Dunton (England) and Dearborn (United States).
From 2001 to 2004 as creative director of Decorum Inc. Istanbul) Erdem enjoyed a diversity of projects - from home accessory product design to design management - and the opportunity to work with design masters. Additionally to Maybedesign, he devotes himself to experimental product design projects and art installations to promote turkish design and designers. Project Tasarlat|r , Ali Baba Design Lab ., are some of the projects co-founded by him. Erdem Akan believes that in order to be successful, industry should follow design and not vice versa.
