Sara van der Heide

Sara van der Heide was born in 1977 in Busan, South Korea. Having studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, Amsterdam (NL), she obtained a Bachelor in Education of History of Art and Drawing and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting at AKI, Academy of Fine Arts & Design (NL). After the postgraduate program at de Ateliers, Amsterdam she spent two years in New York on the artist-in-residence ISCP grant. She widely exhibited her paintings in Netherlands and abroad. Her works have been collected by the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, Walker Art Center, Minneapolis (USA), De Ateliers, Amsterdam, Her Majesty Queen Beatrix, The Hague, KPN Collection, Amsterdam, ABNAMRO Bank, Amsterdam. Her large scale canvases reflect dreams and personal narratives set in a mise-en-scene evoking both straightforward realism and a sense of melancholy for the current events of our planet. Raised in the Netherlands, she ponders on her original culture especially after the impact of her second trip to Korea where she was born. Avoiding all the cliché, the aesthetic quality of her imagery is that of a pure short tale able to recount a story. She is now working on a solo show for the Silverman Gallery in San Francisco. www.saravanderheide.nl
