Born 1976 in Reykjavik, Iceland, Ragnar Kjartansson graduated from The Royal Academy, Stockholm, Sweden and the Icelandic Academy of arts in 2001. Since then his career has been characterized by experiments with visual art, music and theater.A member of the group Trabant, he explores the boundaries between electronic rock and performance. Working simultaneously as an artist and a musician, he considers himself mainly a performance artist. Kjartansson also creates videos, paintings, and installations, which relate to his performances. His pieces are characterized by the interplay between contradictory ional feelings; sorrow and happiness, horror and beauty, drama and humor.
