Moleskine ® - Legendary notebook - Tord Boontje

Boontje's notebook is a precise cutwork that unfolds from this Japanese style pocket book. We can see how nature inspires him, creating light and decorative motives.

Born in Enschede, Netherlands in 1968, studied industrial design at the Design Academy in Eindhoven and followed this with a Masters from the Royal College of Art in London. In 1996 founded the Studio Tord Boontje. He lived and worked in London from 1995 to 2005 and has since lived and worked in Bourg-Argental, France. The Studio's work draws from a belief that modernism does not mean minimalism, that contemporary does not forsake tradition, and that technology does not abandon people and senses. The designs often temper edges with softness, borrow inspiration from nature, and employ a décor of forms and layers to engage and entice an observer's imagination and emotions.

Although the use of technologies and material properties is never celebrated, there is nonetheless a conscious insistence that the Studio's work employ the latest production and material technologies in pursuit of its vision. His work Little Field of Flowers was awarded in 2007 Red Dot Design Award and in 2008 the Elle Décor Design Award. His latest group show include: Lace in Translation at the Design Center at Philadelphia University and Telling Tales: Fantasy and Fear in Contemporary Design at the Victoria & Albert Museum London, both in 2009.
