FAI, The Italian National Trust and Moleskine present the third in a series of publications celebrating the role of hand drawing in the creative process, before the mouse comes into action. The Hand of the Graphic Designer book and exhibition showcase 367 original sketches by 108 international graphic designers such as Italo Lupi, Giancarlo Iliprandi, Erik Spiekermann with Matthew Carter, James Clough, Alek Jordan, Atelier Vostok, Fanette Mellier, Esther Lee, Damien Conrad, Milton Glaser, Bob Gill, Pablo Ferro, Bonsaininja, Robert Massin, Martí Guixé, H-Art, Information Architect and more. This volume offers a sampling of the current state of graphic design with an array of significant examples of the art of designing letters, words, signs and images. The book is bound in the classical Moleskine notebook layout: rounded corner, elastic band, but with A4 red hard cover. Worldwide preview during Milan's Salone del Mobile, in April 2011. Revenues from the initiative will support of FAI.

Following the exhibition, the original works have been auctioned by Sotheby's Milan at Villa Necchi Campiglio on May 12, 2011. Revenues go to Villa Necchi and to a project run by FAI for the restoration of a series of antique books in the historic library of Masino Castle, a monumental property that FAI owns in the Piedmont region.

On Moleskine Sketchbooks: Domus Academy Student's Milan Perception

SCRIBA at Interni Mutant Architecture& Design

A scribe-robot writes thoughts and comments collected from the Internet, using the new Moleskine pens. A transparent box inserted in a large reading table showcases a selection of decorated notebooks from Detour, the Moleskine travelling exhibition curated by Raffaella Guidobono.

The public contributed to the installation, by sending their writings via web, which the Scriba will then transcribe. A large participatory area surrounds the robot, open to the public with seats, benches, tables, and tablets for flicking through the new Moleskine App for iPad. Here showcased is a small selection of designers: Tord Boontje, Fernando e Humberto Campana, Giulio Iacchetti, Setsu & Shinobu Ito, Joep van Lieshout, Julia Lohmann, Nicolas Gwenael, Patricia Urquiola. The Italian National Trust and Moleskine present a new special project, "The Hand of the Designer". The book is bound in the classical Moleskine Folio book layout, A4, but with white cover. The publication will come together with a 120-page Moleskine blank drawing sketch-book, for notes and free hand sketching.

"The Hand of the Designer" displays original sketches, given to the Italian National Trust, by 150 international designers, among them Bouroullec Brothers, Michael Graves, Hella Jongerius e Karim Rashid.

The project is an intimate look into the creative process of the designer, and a celebration of the everlasting power of free hand sketching even in the AutoCAD® era. Quick sketches, graphic signs, paper collages, tools to express an idea: the freedom given to designers in choosing the materials to send allows an eclectic documentation.

"The Hand of the Designer" will be released in conjunction with a special exhibition including all the original sketches, at Villa Necchi Campiglio and Triennale Bovisa, on Saturday the 10th of April 2010, during the Salone del Mobile Furniture Fair in Milan. Following the exhibition, the original works will be auctioned off by Sotheby's Milan at Villa Necchi Campiglio on May 13, 2010.

The whole initiative is organized and will benefit FAI Fondo Ambiente Italiano (the Italian National Trust). Partners Alterstudio, in collaboration with La Triennale di Milano, Galleria Antonia Jannone and Sotheby's. Moleskine is the publishing partner. Curators are Francesca Serrazanetti and Matteo Schubert, together with design expert Doia Giovanola.

MoMA Atlantic Pacific

Atlantic Avenue / Pacific Street is the name of a stop in the New York underground, in Brooklyn, the center of new art scene. In February 2009, MoMA created a special exhibition in there, with the idea of taking art outside the museum walls. Reproductions from the MoMA collection were installed with works by Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, Georgia O'Keeffe, Man Ray.

Moleskine created a special edition for this art event, with graphic design inspired by urban transportation.

The relationship between artist and notebook is a natural one. Several years ago, the timeless connection between creativity and the blank page took form in a collaboration between The Museum of Modern Art and Moleskine®. Originally a single custom notebook, today's relationship encompasses much more.

In both Tokyo and New York, MoMA's stores have hosted events and displays for Detour and myDetour, the traveling Moleskine® exhibitions. More than a dozen limited edition notebooks have been created with the Department of Film and Video, recognizing the important cinematic contributions of international directors like Roberto Rossellini, Abbas Kiarostami, and Rainer Werner Fassbinder. The Hand of the Architect

The initiative starts with a question asked by Matteo Schubert of Alterstudio Partners, Milano: the hand of the architect, the sketch, is it still useful in a CAD era?

More than 100 internationally recognized architects answered by sending to FAI hundreds of hand drawn works, revealing that sometimes the hand is faster than the computer. An exhibition was organized by FAI- Fondo Ambiente Italiano- called "The Hand of the Architect" with 378 autographed drawings, donated to FAI by their authors as a tribute to Piero Portaluppi, the Milanese architect who designed Villa Necchi Campiglio, beautifully restored and opened to the public by FAI.

Moleskine has designed the catalogue in collaboration with Abitare Mgazine: it includes all the sketches, as well as biographies and texts from designers, historians and art dealers. The catalogue, a 228 page Moleskine Folio notebook in A4 format is accompanied by a 120 blank page Cahier to be sketched through and through.

After the exhibition, the works were auctioned and all proceeds went to Villa Necchi Campiglio's restoration and upkeep.
