Born in Geboren in 1964, Birgit Brenner lives and works in Berlin. After studying at the Studium Grafik-Design, Darmstad and the Hochschule der Künste (HdK) in Berlin and the Staatlichen Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Stuttgart, she was the recipient for the Prices Kunstpreis Tisa von der Schulenburg-Stiftung in 2004, Christian Karl Schmidt Förderpreis für zeitgenössische Kunst in 2003 and PS1 in New York, USA. Her most recent shows include: About Change, Collection, Berlin in 2008, Beten hilft, Kunstverein Paderborn, Heute nicht., Galerie EIGEN + ART, Berlin. She is represented by the Galerie EIGEN + ART, Berlin and Leipzig. Since 1999, Birgit Brenner has been working on the state of women and the margins of madness. Today she uses photography and installations to represent her thoughts. She is the creator of a work steeped in meaning, her notebook is characterised entirely by a weft of threads, including a series of words that ends with an interwoven reel of unspoken sentences sewed for the whole length of the pages in the Japanese format, then wrapped with a rope of unspoken sentences that slip into the pocket at the end.
