Party: April 19, from 7 PM to midnight, with a DJ set @ Design Supermarket, la Rinascente.
A percussive music pervades the street in Via Santa Radegonda, at the corner of Piazza Duomo. The sound is created by Moleskine design objects that have been and morphed into a series of musical instruments, sculptures in motion. The Moleskine Orchestra is a Felix Machine's production: pencils are clappers, notebooks are bellows, e-reader cases are drums, and glasses, pens, booklights and erasers are the structural components of these unique series of kinetic sound machines. The Moleskine Orchestra will be performing on stage as part of Hacked, the design event set up at la Rinascente, the Milanese department store, for the Milan Design Week 2012.
Felix Thorn's Bio. Felix Thorn (1985, Brighton, UK). At the age of 7 he began studying the piano. In his teenage years he developed an obsession with jazz improvisation. At college, Felix discovered a keen interest in electronic music production via computer software. His continued passion for art saw him researching in sculptural and painting. He was primarily concerned with finding ways in which sound and sculpture could be united. Felix's Machines caught the attention of the London Sinfionetta which led to his first installation in Autumn 2007 at the British Library. Since then, interest sparked and Felix's Machines have performed at venues ranging from the Great Hall at the Battersea Arts Centre to a soundproofed control room inside a turbine bunker at the Faster Than Sound festival, as well as at the Royal College of Art (2008), at the Gasworks gallery (2008-09), and in exhibitions in Norway, in Slovenia, and at Santarcangelo theatre festival, Italy. Felix was selected to lecture TED. 2009 ended with a performance at the Barbican Center in London. 2010 has included exhibitions in Berlin, Paris and a placement as artist in residency during Ether Festival at SouthBank Center.
