Isola&Norzi

The Isola&Norzi sculptor duo alias Hilario Isola and Matteo Norzi have been working together since 1999. They live and work in Turin, Italy and New York. They were both born in Italy in 1976 and they have been developing and researching various modes of expression through sculpture together. Their four handed artistic endeavour explores different fields of representation such as light distortion directly in exhibition sites or semantic manipulation of objects of common use. The intent is to compose installations, which are able to narrate the prints that man leaves behind, investigating by deep ensouling intentions and, zooming out, as a journey to a state of limbo in which memories approach the borders of reality and redefine them. Two points of view aim at transforming the work into an evocative commentary in which both presence and absence redefine spaces. Forgotten instinctual desires and longing are rediscovered in order to escape from the artificial world and express themselves in a dialectic form.

This ambiguity is nonetheless concurrent with the ephemeral nature of man and the inevitable changes to our habitats. Time erosion and space taming are the conceptual terms and formal instruments the artists utilize in order to lead viewers towards a broader reflection on trespassing, destination, and purpose.
