Born in 1977 in Hildesheim, Germany, she started to collect driftwood on the beach as a child and then made sculpture from it. She graduated in graphic design at the Surrey Institute and she studied design products at the Royal College of Art, London. In 2004 Lohmann showed in the first Design Mart exhibition at the Design Museum, and was one of five featured designers to be awarded a bursary by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation. Her work has since been commissioned by the French National Art Collection, Galerie KREO in Paris and the droog design group. She won two 'Best of Category IF Design Awards' for both Packaging Design and Ecology at the 2001 IF Design Awards as well as the prestigious Red Dot Design Award. She has been nominated as one of the four Designers of the Future at the Design Miami 08. She likes to give every object the purpose of being useful. Her work investigates the relationship between industrial production and its waste.
