城市

“I am Tokyo” is the latest installment in the popular “I am the City” collection by artist Carlo Stanga, following editions themed around Milan, London, and New York. This new volume centers on Tokyo and is part of a series of notebooks available exclusively in their respective cities.

Tokyo is renowned for its vibrant urban landscape — from the precision of its subway system to intersections that resemble an ant’s nest. But these are just fragments of what makes Tokyo unique. The city masterfully balances its dual identity: a bustling metropolis and a place of quiet reflection. This is the contrast that Carlo Stanga captures in his vision of Tokyo.

On one hand, bullet trains race through the city; on the other, Mount Fuji stands in serene observation. Towering skyscrapers coexist with sacred spaces like Senso-ji Temple.

“I am Tokyo”, the latest in the “I am the City” collection, showcases Carlo’s imaginative and distinctive perspective on a city that harmoniously blends evolution and tradition. His homage to Tokyo is expressed through the design of the notebook, featuring his unique illustrations not only on the cover but also throughout the interior and on the included postcards.

“Designing Tokyo is like exploring a planet made of the values I cherish: creativity, respect for the public good, inspiration, and beauty. My mentor, Bruno Munari, introduced me to Japan’s creative virtues when I was a student. Since then, I have held this land in deep respect. To draw Tokyo is a blessing for me.”
— Carlo Stanga
