VOICE BOOK is a custom edition notebook designed by artist Hannah Marshall as part of Detour London 2023, the Moleskine travelling exhibition. Through Hannah’s words inside and out, including a poem, this notebook quietly honours the art of words and the dichotomous themes explored by the artist in her work: permanence and impermanence, black and light, silence and sound. The handwriting on the cover and inner pages is Hannah's own as a physical representation of her unique voice.
The box contains items mindfully pieced together to unlock and invite focused thought; a bookmark with a cutout to remove distractions and isolate individual words, stickers to underline, highlight or hide words, and, a card with ‘impermanence’ inscribed on one side featuring a blank white space on the other for you to add a intentional word of your choice. Being a Smart Notebook, you can choose from a variety of creative tools to fill its pages, from fountain pens to the Moleskine Smart Pen for digitised notes.
Detour London at Saatchi Gallery features Hannah’s VOICE BOX installation which is designed for visitors to experience poetry and preservation through sounds, semantics and symbolism. The installation celebrates the power of the written word as it permeates the page with a 4 minute poetic symphony that reveals Hannah’s voice. Hannah’s notebook will enter the Moleskine Foundation collection to support its mission of creativity for social change.
