Moleskine introduces
two new hybrid tools designed for making it easier the simultaneous use of paper, phone and internet utilities: a
Smartphone Cover compatible with iPhone 3G and 3GS, and a
Tablet Cover, iPad compatible. Both Covers are combined with blank notebook pages. They are conceived as analog-digital ultra-portable workstations for the contemporary nomads.
The features and style of both Covers are those of a classic Moleskine notebook:
sleek rounded corners, strong elastic band, and the legendary
smooth black cover. Inside, a lighter suede lining protects the electronic device against impact and scratches, alongside a Volant notebook with plain pages.
The Smartphone Cover is mainly conceived to be used with Bluetooth, headphones or loud speaker. Smartphone and Tablet Covers add to the first piece in the Folio Digital collection, the
e-Reader Cover for Kindle.

Are you planning to update the Kindle version? Kindle 3 is now smaller and doesn't fit in the current cover.
I second the comment about the Kindle3. I have 2 Kindle3's just waiting for a decent cover.
Moleskine cover for Kindle works for me.
although I will say I am left handed and I LOVE the fact that the notebook is on the left. I hope thats still an option for further down the line.
By cover for kindle I meant cover for kindle3.
What about the iPhone 4?
Gotta agree with Lou - the iphone 4 has been out for months, yet you're first releasing a cover for the 3G/3GS?
Also, I sent an email months ago when you first released the kindle cover, asking if you were planning something similar for the nook (barnes & noble), which I would buy in a heartbeat. Not even an autoresponse saying you got my message, so now I'm posting the request in comments in the hope that someone sees it. I know several people with nooks who would love a moleskine cover for it.
I'm going to echo the requests for Nook and iPhone 4 covers.
Also, for any of these, I'd prefer the writing area to be on the right. Though I'm not mad at you all for catering to the often underserved lefty market. ;)
Any chance of creating some left-handed models? You know - it wouldn't be perfect writing with left hand in the notebook while having your the hand on your iPad.
Count me in on wanting a cover for iPhone 4!!! I don't care how bulky it gets!
Willy question perhaps, but I do Hope the notebook will be replaceable once full... Would be costly if not, in the long run...
Please preapre products for Iphone 4 and Kindle 3
Can I be notified when this is an iphone4 case?
-- Also, I agree that a replaceable notebook would a cool idea.
This seems a good idea except there is no information as to whether or not the cover can be folded back to make a good angle for typing on the iPad as other cases do. I suspect the moleskine might be too soft for that but it is an essential feature for any iPad cover. Also it is important for the cover to fold back on itself so that the iPad can be used standing up against the lower arm but the photos show it merely folded out like a conventional book on a desk which is the least common way of using an iPad.
Also, is it possible to swap out the note paper for a watercolor sketch pad? I am an artist. It is useful to make a watercolor wash, photograph it on the iPhone4 with an app which sends photo directly into the iPad and then use it as a layer in an iPad painting app. I can draw and write notes on watercolor paper but I can't do watercolor on note paper
There are a lot of very interesting and creative suggestions in this thread, but I think by fat the most important is the production of a case for the iPhone 4. I can guarantee you, as soon as a Moleskine case for the iPhone 4 is released, I will jump on it faster than you can say "awesome iPhone case"!
I am getting a new kindle soon (I have kindle 1 but it has sadly died). And I would really like to get a Moleskine cover, I think combining real paper with the ebook is a wonderful idea. Please tell me you will be coming out with a new kindle 3 cover?
Thanks everybody for the huge amount of comments and feedbacks you gave during these days. We really appreciate your passion about our products.
That said, as far as iPhone 4, Kindle 3 and other Digital Covers, we have just started experiencing the digital world and we are focusing as fast as we can on new tech releases that could be suitable for a Moleskine products. We decided to concentrate our efforts firstly on these three covers because of the big user-based that they have currently.
At this time we cannot provide any timing of further digital covers, but be sure we are really working hard to provide you the best “cover-experience” for other digital devices.
About left-handed, currently the iPad one is the one you can turn upside-down as well as the notepad in it.
And @Tony, yes you can swap it.
Andrea
Thanks Andrea for responding, but you didn't really answer the questions we had.
I finally contacted jaime by email. He sent me pictures of a Kindle 3 inside the Moleskine Kindle cover. It looks great and he says that the rubber back of the Kndle keeps everything in place.
Customers answering customers questions is often the best way to go.
I would love to see a Kindle 3 (and iphone 4, for that matter) cover with the paper sheets on the right-hand side. Over 90% of the population are right-handed, so having the paper sheets/pads on the left is a very poor design decision, forcing the user to reach across the face of their device to write, thus preventing the ability to make notes while viewing the screen of their device. Would love to see one with a pen loop too, but that might be pushing it.
Plus, what about a cover for the Motorola Droid!!!
I actually use the softcover diary that has a week to a page and a notes page as my wallet. I put my cards and notes in the back pocket. I'm actually looking for something that combines all three. Because I don't quite rely on my mobile device for organising/diary. You shouldn't really have to open this cover to use your phone, that's kinda impractical. It's screen should face out the back, or front, of the cover. Inside is the notebook/diary, with a slip for cards. And yeah you should make left and right handed versions. Then you have one wallet for diary, phone and wallet. Probably not a good thing to lose.
I am so excited to see here that there is going to be a cover for the iPad! I just wrote a review of the Apple iPad on the Music Teachers Helper Blog, and mentioned how I still love the traditional look and feel of a Moleskine date book; now I will have the best of both worlds!
where is the rubber-band? have or not?
i have my bare kindle 3 for 2 months already waiting for the new Moleskine cover. I hope it will come to the market soon...very soooooon!!
I have been noticing that there may be a push back in the release date until Feb 2011? Is that accurate?
I am really looking forward to combining my IPad and Moleskine notebook together under the same cover.
@Kathy
I'm not sure. I pre-ordered the iPad cover from Amazon, and the initial release date was in February, but then I received an e-mail from Amazon saying they were going to ship out late November. But now, you can't even see the page for the iPad cover on Amazon at all. I'm not sure what is going on.
So, I'm still confused... Is the Moleskine Kindle cover that Amazon says will ship on Nov. 24 designed specifically for the new Kindle 3? The picture at the top of this page shows the notebook on the right (which I assume is the new design) but with a Kindle 2 fitted into the other side...wtf? I can't imagine Moleskine is releasing a new product to fit an old product like the Kindle 2 but you never know... I went ahead and pre-ordered but I will be beyond upset if it doesn't fit the K3 well. I don't really want a cover that "will fit" but isn't designed for the specific product (in this case, the K3) Come on Moleskine, give us some straight answers...
Now they are back up at Amazon, but sold out.
They aren't sold out. They have not been produced as yet. My guess is that we will be waiting a long time. Not sure why nobody else has produced one yet. Lots of people want this.
WOW. REALLY Disappointed!
Just got mine. I've been waiting a while for this cover, and it's everything I thought it would be: Moleskine quality, substantial feel, nice holder for the iPad, and a replaceable pad. The only thing missing is a pen loop.
That said, Moleskine made a rookie mistake with their design. While they include directions on how to flip the unit around to use it for leftys, when you do so, the "cover" becomes the back, and vice versa... and on your new cover, you now have an embossed Moleskine Logo--UPSIDE DOWN! Are there no lefties at Moleskine who tried the thing?
It's bad enough they didn't bother with a lefty unit, but I can handle flipping it around (and having my iPad home button on top, though a bottom button cutout wouldn't have killed anyone). And I can handle that once flipped the strap works the opposite of all other Moleskine products (since back is now front). But to have Moleskine expect me to start at their upside down logo all day is more than I'm willing to settle for on such a pricey item.
I'm ANGRY that I waited for so long for a product with such a STUPID STUPID flaw.
Please tell me that this will be fixed?
Too bad. Could have been a GREAT product.
@italiancousin
Thanks for your feedback. We appreciate users suggestions a lot. There’s always room for improvement for these kind of product and as said before we have just started experiencing the digital world.
I went ahead an bought the Kindle 2 cover from amazon.co.uk, and it does fit the latest generation Kindle 3. It's not a perfect fit, as you would expect from a K2 cover, but it's better than I imagined. I'm really pleased with it, and will be keeping it.
If anyone is interested, I've put some pics up on Flickr to show how it looks with the K3:

@Staff Moleskine.
Can you, please, try one iphone 4 on the iphone 3 cover and check if it can be used w/ some minor tweaks. I ask this because I guess that on this moleskine look alike cover http://padandquill.com/the-little-black-book.html they just glue some small "ruber cushions" on the corners of the iphone 3 case, to make it work for the iphone 4 (sizes are very similar).
TIA
Fernando Rodrigues
Wait for iPhone4 version.
Where can I buy refills for the iPad Cover online?
The size doesn't match other Volant Reporter Plain Notebooks out there. The size I'm looking for is 7" x 9".
The site has a very generic "spring" promise for thew availability of refills. I was lucky to get the cover this winter however it is frustrating that Moleskine didn't plan well and ran out of pad refills. Even more frustrating that it's taking months to backfill the supply chain.
Conserving my one and only voliant pad is a bit of a pain.
Couldn't agree more.
Am running out of paper in my iPad cover, and need to get some more very soon.
Also - please make sure the replacement pads are available in the UK as having paid a lot for this cover, I don't want to have to pay huge shipping fees to buy direct from the US.
btw - loving the iPad case !
oh no >__ crazy apple with their new versions ~ how can Moleskine catch up ~ ~
or do they both fit..? hehhe~
iPhone 4 case? replaceable paper? pretty pretty please?
Please an iPad 2 case????? And soon this would be the perfect combo for a series of upcoming business meetings!
Can the current iPad cover be used for the iPad 2 ?
Pretty cool!!! I simply added the Old School Apple Logo to a Moleskine cover: http://www.etsy.com/listing/74594400/apple-think-different-moleskine-cahier?ref=pr_shop
What do you think?
Kindle 3, iPhone 4, and iPad 2 cases are all needed. These are incredible cases, and should be updated for all the new products. I LOVE Moleskine and am looking forward to purchasing the new cases, should they become offered.
Rickshaw folios are really tearing it up with their style and function! LOVE my smartphone moleskine folio and look forward to what they come out with next! See - http://wp.me/p106i6-2EE
I just bought the iPad case and although it is really beautiful, I don't think it suitable for left handed writers. Eventhough the folder implies that it is. You can turn the notebook around, but if you turn the iPad around, you can't easily access the buttons and connections anymore. Would it have been really hard to make the same openings on either side? I'm rather dissapointed. It's an expensive cover and I'm not sure I will be able to use it.
It would be fantastic if you would partner with the Live Scribe folks so that the paper notes could be transcribed onto the iPad.
Please, please, PLEASE release a cover for the iPad2 that fits snuggly and has room for the forward facing camera. I'm a big fan of Moleskine products and would really like to get a proper cover for my iPad!
Will have to wait long for the ipad2 cover? Thanks!
I'd really like to get a cover for my iPhone 4!!!
Please let me know when it's available in Germany.
Hi there,
iPad 2 cover please, or are you skipping this and waiting for iPad 3 currently the only other alternative I can see is the DoDo case but this does not include a writing pad and I pernally cannot see an alternative! You are missing a trick and lots of revenue!!!!!
Sorry to add to many requests for an iphone 4, but will one come out soon--perhaps in time for those about to own an iphone 4S?
Also I've read a review claiming a big impediment using this cover is the inability to talk on the phone sans-headset. I'm wondering, if that is a real issue, if that can be easily alleviated by folding the cover when make phone-to-ear calls.
Does anyone know if there is something like the case for iphone 3 but for 4s? Im really sick of waiting for moleskin to create one which should have been done ages ago! Does anyone know if something similar has been made by someone else?? Thanks!
These look great! I have been debating about getting one of these or leather ipad covers Im not sure which kind I like more.
